I’d like to set up MSM and take advantage of the single CMS, multiple sites concept. Thing is—the 2nd site needs an entirely different domain from the current, default site.
I’ve contacted my host about pointing an entirely new domain to either a subfolder or subdomain of the existing default domain. They are saying ‘no can do.”
Specifically—
Unfortunately, you will not be able to point site2.org to a folder or to a subdomain of site1.org.
Each hosting account on our servers is meant to be used for one domain, as well as a number of parked domains, according to the hosting plan. Parked domains are full aliases of the main domain - they display the same site content and share the same mailboxes. Pointing parked domains to subfolders or subdomains on the account through .htaccess files or other means is not allowed.
I love this host and have used them for years with nothing but high praise.
Just curious if this is common, and if MSM is typically used with subdomains, not fully new domains, or at least not on shared servers, such as this.
Hate to have to do a 2nd CMS install, but it’s looking that way.
Thanks!
