    EE 1.6.8

I’m still new to EE.  I picked up a client with an existing EE site at the start of the summer.  It’s been a long learning experience.

I’m currently having trouble with entry comments.  They’ve been getting a bunch of spam comments, and they need to moderate comments.  It appears the tools used for moderating comments aren’t working.

Problem #1: This post indicates the admin should be able to see a list of comments when searching for “comments” under the “edit” tab: http://www.train-ee.com/courseware/free-tutorials/comments/expressionengine-comments-editing-in-groups-and-moving/

However, when I go under edit and search for comments, it tells me “There are no entries matching the criteria you selected”.  Just to check I’m not selecting the wrong thing by mistake, here’s a screen grab:
    http://www.tikimojo.com/tmp/comments-search.jpg

I know there are comments because I’ve written a test template to show them:
    http://www.kcymaerxthaere.com/showcomments

Problem #2: It’s not sending notifications.  I go into the weblog in question and set all of the notifications and nothing ever appears in my email box.  See screen grab of settings here:
    http://www.tikimojo.com/tmp/notification.jpg

While solving an earlier problem, it was suggested that I see if anything different happens with Extensions turned off.  So, I went here: CP Home ›  Admin ›  Utilities ›  Extensions Manager and disabled extensions.  No difference in behavior.

Any idea why this is broken and what I can do to fix it?

    Thanks, Steve

    Hi, Steve.

If you’re the one doing the comments, you won’t receive notifications from yourself. Might that be the issue there?

Are you perhaps running with the MSM?

Ah, I see.  When I leave a post with a different address it does come through like it should.

However, we still have problem #1 (above)

Are you perhaps running with the MSM?

MSM?  You mean Multiple Site Manager?  I’m not using it.  It appears to not be installed.

Do you see something like this when you click on Recent Comments from the CP Home screen?

No, it looks like this: http://images.kcymaerxthaere.com/tmp/comments.jpg

    (we’re EE 1.6.8)

There’s no way that I can see of clicking on “recent comments” like you’re asking.  Am I missing something?

If I click on the blue text, that takes me to the ‘CP Home ›  Edit ›  View Entry’ screen for that weblog entry.

I see at the bottom a “view comments” link, which does bring up a screen listing comments attached to that weblog entry.

So, this is the process we’re supposed to use to moderate comments?

This may seem like a dumb question, but I couldn’t find anything in the EE documentation that explains how to go about this.

Yes, you’d click the list to “View comments” in your Control Panel and take it from there. The method employed by Michael Boyink should work as well. Can you perhaps upgrade to the latest version and build? Are you using the standard control panel theme? No extensions?
