    Hi John,

I just updated to EE2.1.1 and after that to the latest build of the Discussion forum.

    I got the same error:

    A Database Error Occurred
    Error Number: 1091
    Can’t DROP ‘member_id’; check that column/key exists
ALTER TABLE `exp_forum_read_topics` DROP KEY `member_id`
    Filename: modules/forum/upd.forum.php
    Line Number: 829

I also tried using root user for mysql (super user in MySQL) and same result.

    Hi Patata,

Thank you for the update. We are still investigating this issue. Have you attempted to modify the schema for the exp_forum_read_topics table?

    Cheers

    Greg

    Hi Patata,

It looks like the forum upgrade script from 2.2 to 3.0 got interrupted about halfway through. Once I manually ran the updates to get the database to 3.0, the forum updated itself fine to 3.1. I don’t know why the update got interrupted in the first place - could have been a server fluke - but it appears to be working now. Can you confirm?

Thanks again for your extreme patience on this, and apologies again for this thread somehow falling through the cracks.

    Is working now

What do I need to do to avoid this error? I need to upgrade the production web site.

    Patata,

Glad you are up and running again. Feel free to start a new thread if you have any more questions.
Like Brandon says it could have been a server fluke so our advice would be to always backup everything before attempting any upgrades and follow the docs closely. Any issue come back to us here.

    Hi Patata,

I don’t think this should occur again - if you haven’t tried the upgrade on the live site yet, make a full backup and then try the upgrade. If for some reason the same problem occurs, restore the backed-up files and database, and let us know. Thanks!
