    Hi all,

I’ve currenly got a project underway that requires use of the EE forum module, so I decided to build a scaffold theme for developers to use as a base to get started. Anyone that’s had to build a forum in the past will know how much of a dog the default themes are to customise.

I’ve been quite selfish and trimmed a lot of excess features for my requirements, but hopefully some devs will find it useful as a starting point for their projects.

I’m looking for feedback as to its ease of use, functionality and template markup. Not so much on the css as that is a work in progress, and given that it’s a scaffold theme, its assumed you being a dev would rewrite a lot anyway 😊

I’ve uploaded the theme, so kick the tyres, signup for an account and have a play with the member profile section and let me know what you think:

The theme is available for EE2 and can be purchased for $40 from Devot://ee

    cheers

    Thanks Sue,

Some fresh eyes will make all the difference 😊

The member profile area was the hardest part, I’m sure I’ve got some issues that need to be weeded out in there…

I actually like the simple clean look as it is.
I’ll download the files and have a look at how easy it would be to customize.
I’ve edited forum theme before and hated it

Very nice and smooth, I love forum themes and as such never really found them to be the pain but then again…
here is a few quick notes (and I mean really quick observations)
-love the topic icons…folders, hot topics…very nice
-main nav (“fm-main-navigation”) seems to get a scroll arrows when any other link is activated….maybe too tight of a design?
-few icons remained from original theme (rank.gif, from profile icons files such as icon_www.gif)
-personal note: font size and color…a bit on a small size and harder to read but work well with gray theme you have

I always wondered why Minimalist theme does not get more add space on forums or even gets shipped as a default? People love this ‘vanilla’ look and it makes for less intimidating starting point.

Good work iain, well deserved milestone.

    Thanks @lebisol

Yeah, the images/graphics are getting some love next (I did the icons yesterday)

There will be many more rendering issues as I said, zero browser testing been done yet… I’m on osx/Safari and don’t see what you’re seeing, but that stuff will come out in the wash when the testing starts 😊

    cheers.

I’ve only poked around a bit but my first impression is wonderful. The clean lines, like the others said, is welcomed.

    Hi Iain,

Looks really good. A great contribution to EE community.

Maybe this is a silly question, but I never did any hacking with forum themes. The demo is installed on EE Discussion Forum v.3.x. Is this theme compatible with EE Discussion Forum v.2.x ?

Nicely done. Your design improves the usability of the forums by just making the controls clear.

    Hi again,

It seems that themes developed for Forum module v3.x is not compatible with Forum module v2.x.

Any chance for porting this theme to be compatible with v2.x?

    Zero chance from me.

The code is there, it’s on an open license so as long as you aren’t selling it - go for it.
