I am rebuilding a client’s intranet in EE and am trying to decide if I should go with EE1 or EE2.  The main reason behind my uncertainty is my client has many files for employees to download and I’m wondering if there are any add-ons to display files uploaded via the EE2 File Manager (from what I have read it doesn’t exist by default), or if I should go with EE1 and something like Client Downloads.

I haven’t found a plugin quite that advanced in terms of file/user management for EE2, yet…

There are add-ons for securing files in EE2, but I have not found one that lists files that are in a folder (if that’s what you are looking for). Either way, a small snippet of PHP could handle a file listing, and you could use an add-on for serving the actual downloads from a secure folder, like http://devot-ee.com/add-ons/downloader/.

This is assuming you don’t need user-specific upload/download folders.

    HD-

Thanks for the tip on downloader.  That may be the solution (no, we don’t need user-specific upload/download folders).
