Another Upgrading from 1.6.9 to 2.1.0 problem thread

This question may be related to a resolved thread.

    A Database Error Occurred
    Error Number: 1146

    Table 'online11_ee.exp_weblog_fields' doesn't exist

    SELECT field_id FROM exp_weblog_fields WHERE field_type = 'date'

Looking in the database, there is no exp_weblog_fields but exp_channel_fields with data in it. At this point I have tried various installs and changed the index.php files, etc. so I am not surprised that I receive an error like this. Should I start with a fresh installation but would I still be able to connect to the existing data?...if that made sense. Help.

    digital1,

What version did you do your upgrade from?
Can you confirm that these were the docs you used?
EE User Guide : Updating from 1.x to 2.x

Was there any issue when running the update wizard?
Can you walk us through what you did to update please?

    Hi John,

    I upgraded from 1.6.9

Yes, I tried to use the docs at http://ellislab.com/expressionengine/user-guide/installation/update_from_1.x.html. I uploaded the new files to a system folder I renamed “modus” in 1.6.9. I went through the entire process of going through the Installation and Update Wizard. If I recall there were some PHP errors that were listed but “cleared” when I proceeded through the wizard. That is where I ended up with the “Database Error Occurred” meesage.

When I installed a new 2.1.0 version on another account I remembered that using anything other than “system” as my folder caused errors, so I tried to rename “modus” back to system as well as deleted the modus folder altogether and uploaded the files to a new system folder but still had the same issue.

I know its a mess at this point. The data seems to be intact in “channels” tables and I am hoping I can still access it some how even if I have to rebuild it I suppose.

Do you still have your 1.x db?

Well I thought I did because I backed it up before the upgrade attempt. I say that because I have tried three or four times to restore it using the CPanel on my web host account but when I look at database tables, it has “channels” listed versus “weblog”. As you can probably tell, I have minimal experience with database admin so I am not even sure if I have a valid backup or not.

    Hi digital1,

It sounds like you might be trying to import the database file into a database that is not empty (already has some of the EE 2.x tables). Always import into a brand new database. If that doesn’t help, can you ask your host for assistance in restoring the database?

Once we get you back to a working 1.6.9 site we can try again, noting any PHP errors before continuing.

Hi Brandon, unfortuantely it looks like the database wasn’t backed up properly (meaning it was done but the tables are empty) and the weekly backup from the web host was overwritten :(. However the data is in the existing database except “upgraded” to 2.1.0. Is there anything else I can do at this point?  Thanks for your help.

    digital1,

If you rename the system/installer folder to something else and then try logging into the control panel, are you able to get in?

Brandon, after looking through the database and not having a valid backup, I decided to do a clean install of EE2 and copy and paste the data I had. I didn’t have that much data to port over. So please close this thread and thanks for your help!
