Hello I am using the third party Sitemap module to generate a google sitemap but for some reason in GOogle Webmaster tools it’s only showing 6 pages indexed. We have like 2000 pages. It’s been months since we installed the sitemap module so not sure why it’s not indexing. I tried contacting the developer but he’s not replying.

    Does anyone know the problem?

    THe sitemap is at http://www.munley.com/sitemap.php

    thanks!

    Kevin,

I’m afraid we do not offer support for third-party modules. You will have to persist with trying to contact the author I’m afraid.

Your site map is there though so the issue might be with Google and not the module creator as the module has done its job in creating it for you.

Have you submitted it through Google’s Webmaster Tools?

Google more than likely will not index all those 2000 pages. The sitemap is just to direct Google where to go and what to try and index. Google bases indexing on what is on the actual page as opposed to just being told by a sitemap to index.

    Does that help?

GWT data isn’t very reliable in my opinion.

a google site: search shows you’ve got nearly 1000 pages in the index (though that number isn’t entirely accurate either, but it’s better than GWT).

Donovan, yes we have submitted to GWT, it’s showing only 6 pages. But I understand where you are coming from. I’ve been trying to explain to upper management in my company that we cant really rely on GWT as far as indexing.
