Has anyone else had the desire to build a banner management tool and found that the functionality available in EE2 to be lacking?

The file upload tool is great in that it shows thumbnails of images/files previously uploaded but what this really needs is some way of tagging the images so that the library displayed could be filtered in some way.

For example, upload an image and give it a tag of header banner.  Then when using the upload tool we could have a filter on the library to only show the header banners.

Without the ability to tag images on upload, I’m limited to building a header banner channel. I can then have a channel for example that handles pages and when publishing pages, it can have a field for selecting a banner from the banner channel with a little help from the playa and matrix addons.

What this gives me is the ability to select only appropriate banners for the field, but I’m limited to selecting from say a drop down - that could show the file name but lacking an image preview of exactly what I’m selecting.

Has anyone else tackled these problems before and what approaches have they used.

I usually set up several image folders one for each “type” of image, eg gallery photos, banners, icons, logos etc etc. That then makes it easier to manage.

Thanks, I hadn’t realised that multiple upload locations can be defined.  This will certainly make the task much easier.

Did you thought of using OpenX system? It does whatever you want ... I use it and it works perfectly. Also, you can use CKFinder as file browser and through CKFinder you can create new folders and move files through folders, rename them, delete them, resize them ...
