CSS file versioning updating on save of hard file, breaking CSSEdit stylesheet override

If anyone else is a fan of CSSEdit I would love to know if you’ve found a workaround for this:

When using EE templates for CSS files EE appends a version number to the CSS file.  In EE 1.6 this version number would only change when updating the copy of the template in the DB.  But now in EE2 it updates the version number when saving the hard file.  It makes sense, and it is handy for busting the cache,  but as a CSSEdit user it is an inconvenience for me because every time I save the file it breaks the CSSEdit stylesheet override!  It was actually kind of convenient in 1.6 that the version number would only change on a save of the template in the DB.

Any thoughts on a workaround (other than moving CSS file outside of EE templates)?
