How much interest is there in a module to connect EE to WHMCS?

I’m working on what began as a small internal project and has growing quickly into a full-on module. The need was to display information inside EE templates that is pulled from an installation of WHMCS. We’re about to launch a hosting service, and we want to use EE to power the informational/community part of the site. Since we’re using WHMCS to power the hosting accounts, provisioning of services, billing, etc., it only makes sense to connect the two. (I’m also working on an authentication bridge between the two, but don’t get too excited yet.)

So this module is simple to understand: save your WHMCS API info in the EE Control Panel and then use the module’s tags to display any kind of information the WHMCS API allows you to retrieve.

Given that most EE folks probably aren’t using WHMCS though, I was wondering how many people would actually be interested in this sort of thing. Thus the poll. If enough people are interested, I’m considering releasing it on Devot:ee for somewhere around $9.

I think this would be awesome, Kevin. Let me know how I can get it today, or if I can help beta test it!

So this WHMCS tags module continued to evolve after my initial post, and I have some good news! Not only have I added more WHMCS API functions for displaying customer info via tags, it now includes a fully working registration and authentication bridge!

The bridge is one-way, however, due to the way both EE and WHMCS handle authentication. Registrations and logins must originate on the EE side of things, so I’ve modified the templates within WHMCS to always direct links to the login page back to EE for handling. I also wrote HS Redirect (already released for public consumption on Devot:ee) because I needed a redirection plugin powerful enough to handle the interaction between WHMCS and EE. (For example, when a user wants to checkout in WHMCS and it’s time to verify/update billing information, all of that needs to be handled by EE. I set up WHMCS to send the user back to a template within EE, where I use HS Redirect to direct them to the proper page based on whether or not they’re logged in and which member group they’re part of.)

Sounds complicated, I know, but it makes more sense when you see it rather than try to imagine it in the abstract. We’re wrapping up the project this module was written for, so hopefully that’ll be live for everyone to see shortly. In the meantime, I’m going to start writing up the docs for this module and I’ll probably need some beta testers (maybe 1 or 2). Inoa, I’ll shoot you a private message about being one if you like.

Given how powerful this module is and how much maintenance it will require, it’ll have to move beyond the proposed $9 price-point.

I would be very interested in this module as well. I’ve been waiting for some to develop it. Please let me know when it’s available.

    Thanks.

Glad to hear it, robbar! It’s in the testing phase right now, so hopefully it’ll be ready to roll by the end of the month!

This would come in handy for me, also, if it was ever finished or is in development.

Just checking to see if this is still being developed?  If so I would also be interested in the module.
