Our host currently has us set up with oursite.tempwebpage.com and on Sept 1st, it will be automatically switched to oursite.com. how will this effect my expression engine install, or will it? everything is installed in the root.

You will have to edit your preferences, file paths etc., also config.php. See this article for more info.

That’s not helpful to me. We’re not moving any files, or databases - they are all staying the same. I was thinking more along the lines of in the control panel where I have the site url set to oursite.tempwebpage.com - once the server does it’s thing, EE will be “live” except for the fact that EE things that it’s url is oursite.tempwebpage.com instead of oursite.com.

Once switched, will I even have access to the control panel to change the url?

Yes, obviously you can skip that part. Still, the other steps (6, 8 and 9, above all) remain relevant.
