My site is using several wiki’s, one per client.  I need to keep upload files separate by client, and so would like to specify separate download directories for each, but documentation seems sparse and I’m not getting it.

Can anyone give me a quick 1,2,3 on the topic?  Very much appreciated.

    Thanks.  Larry A

Hi, Larry. You’d need to manually create new file upload settings for each wiki.

CP Home ›  Admin ›  Weblog Administration ›  File Upload Preferences ›  Create New Upload Destination

Then once you’ve set a new location, the drop down list of file directories will change, and you’ll be able to pick what you need.

    Does that help?

Thanks, it looks like it should.  Not sure how “Server Path to Upload Directory” and “URL of Upload Directory” should be coded, but I assume it is in the user manual for the EE CP.  But if you can slip me another quick hint, that is again very much appreciated.

    Thanks!!  Larry A

Still not there. Getting the following error message even when I try to upload to the default upload directory off the EE install.

    The following errors were encountered

      * The path specified in your image upload preferences is not correct

The server path comes back similar to the following:

    /www/123456/public_html/system

The default main upload directory is set up as follows:

    /www/123456/public_html/images/uploads/

    Any ideas?

    Thanks. Larry.

Larry, see this screen shot. I filtered out the exact paths, but it should be enough to help.

Larry, I just noticed the image was for EE2.. It’s similar for EE1. Do you need a more robust screen shot?

I think I’ve already got what you are advising in the following, though it looks like EE2.x has changed “public_html” to “ee_html”.

Descriptive name of upload directory = Main Stuff Directory
Server Path to Upload Directory = /www/server/public_html/images/stuff/
URL of Upload Directory = http://www.domain.com/images/stuff/

At one time, this must have worked as I see previously uploaded files in this directory on the server. But I have since upgraded from 1.6.8 to 1.6.9.  Is it possible there is some setting somewhere else that I do not have set correctly?  Or do I need to clear cache?  Or something?

Thanks for sticking with me on this.  Larry.

ee_html is because I have multiple sites on the same server.. in most cases you’d still have public_html. Try clearing your caches, and let us know what happens. Also double check your folder permissions are set to 777.

Did the EE clear cache.  And had changed to 777 earlier.  Same result.  But did not totally clear out my browser cache just yet.  Haven’t time now, but will recheck later tonight.  Thanks.

Having some better luck tonight.  For whatever the reason, when I set up the upload directory on the server, and then copy/paste from there, it seems to work.  So far.  May be just coincidence.  Where if I type in directly, it doesn’t.  To the eye, they seem the same.  There’s gotta be someting going on here, but I can’t spot it.

I guess I just need to keep at it until, by hook or by crook, I have all the client upload directories functioning.

    Let’s close this out.  Thanks.
