Few days, few weeks… I had to get there eventually. Haha, sorry for the delay.
I’ve just re-imported everything into a fresh EE 1.7.0 installation and categories appear to be working fine:

There are over 800 categories, so I’m not sure if that causes an issue or not. Once I get the site on EE 2.1.1, I’d like to convert those to tags with the Solspace module. Unless there’s any objections, I’d like to attempt the upgrade to EE 2.1.1 again later today or this weekend. Any issues I should be aware of or anything you’d like to inspect before I attempt the upgrade again?

Hi John,
Before you do the upgrade please confirm that the categories are fully visible and correctly formatted within the CP. Do they have a url_title as well as a name? If you add or edit a category in the CP does that work properly?
Cheers
Greg

Yes, I checked all that and everything seems in order. Anything else I should check before I upgrade?

Running the EE2.x Server Wizard can’t do any harm.
Make full backups of everything and be sure to follow the correct docs.
We will be here if you need us.

It all worked appropriately this time! yeah! I don’t know if maybe there was just a weird glitch the first time around or just changes in the EE versions that fixed something, but as far as I can tell everything is working as it should.

Thanks. Importing 900 posts and 860 categories plus comments always makes me a little nervous. I’m stoked it went as it should this time.
Any plans on adding the MT Import Utility to EE2? I’m sure it’s been asked for—it’d definitely save me a lot of time and stress in situations like these.

I’m glad to see you’re up & running. Please don’t hesitate to post again in case there’s anything else.
