There are times when I try to log in to my site and when I enter my username and password, the page seems just to refresh.

This happens to me in Chrome, Firefox, and IE. I can usually just switch browsers and it works fine, but that’s a bit of a pain as I already have other tabs open, shouldn’t have to run multiple browsers simultaneously, and have my browser preference.

I can usually just wait 15-20 minutes and log in.

Have already tried clearing the browsers’ caches.

    Running v2.1.0 Build: 20100810

    curtisblackwell,

Try changing your Control Panel Session Type to Cookies only

Admin > Security and Privacy > Security and Sessions

Make sure the domain you login to is consistent. If you installed at http://www.example.com and are trying to login at the domain without the ‘www’ you may have issues

    curtisblackwell,

Let us know if John’s advice helps.

    dcghost,

As you’re using the MSM, you’ll need to properly set a Cookie Domain for each MSM site. Does that help?

One of my clients is running on MSM as well so I was updating the cookie settings as Brandon recommended and I can’t access the sites whose cookie settings I updated.

Is that info stored in the database? If so, where? I can’t find it and I was going to just try clearing out that data.

I too would like to know if there is anywhere else to remove this cookie domain setting?  I can access via my domain’s cpanel to remove it if I can find what file it is in, or even the database, but I can’t get into the CP of EE.  Thanks!!

Currently all our sites at the same domain name.

    http://www.mysite.net          - site 1
    http://www.mysite.net/site1    - site 2
    http://www.mysite.net/site2    - site 3

    Clients logging at the url

    http://www.mysite.net/admin.php

The cookie domain for all sites are: .mysite.net

    dcghost,

No, that’s what caused my current predicament. I can’t access my control panel at all anymore.

    curtis, et al:

I was able to fix my problem by digging into the previous posts a little with a search.

My issue was with 1.6.9, but the problem can probably be fixed similarly in 2.0

in your config.php file, if you have your “cookie domain” set, you should eliminate what is between the quotes, and see if that will let you back in:

    $config['cookie_domain'] = "";

That won’t resolve the issue with setting cookie domain having sub-directories, but hopefully it will let you at least get back into the cpanel.

    *crosses fingers*

(in 1.6.9 I fixed it by forcing mine to log in via session as opposed to cookie, then I was able to log into CP and remove my cookie domain)

I followed NikiW’s advice and was able to get back into the CP but can only access the default site and the site whose settings I did not change.

    Thanks, NikiW.

Is there a separate config.php file for MSM sites?

Scratch that, I don’t think I am able to access the CP. I left my browser open last night hoping that my log in wouldn’t time out, but it crashed. I put the code NikiW suggested in my config.php file and then went to CP URL and it skipped the login screen and just let me into the CP.

I am able to access the default site (I wasn’t able to yesterday) and the site whose cookie settings I left unchanged.

I am NOT able to access the cookie settings page for the default site. I am NOT able to access the CP in any other browser.

I got things back up and working by doing the following (Backup your db before trying this!):

    1. Installed EE locally with all the same customizations (add-ons, templates) except for the other sites (I just worked with the default_site and ignored the rest).

    2. Replaced data in live site’s site_system_preferences column inside exp_sites table with that in the local site’s db.

    3. Logged in to live site.

    4. Changed Admin > General Configuration settings back to what they should be.

If you have a recent db backup, you can probably just replace the current one with it.
