I am running on EE 1.6.8 Build: 20100121 and my site is a multi-language site. I want to edit the email template of notification sent to new users when they register so I have tried to edit the following location first:

CP Home › Admin › Specialty Templates › Email Notification Templates › Member Account Validation Notification

That didn’t work so I have searched the forum and tried to edit the email_data.php file in the language folder. But that didn’t work either. Where is the actual email template that I need to edit? It seems like the old template is cached somewhere so I have tried to clear all cache at:

CP Home › Admin › Utilities › Clear Cached Data

That didn’t do it either! What seems to be wrong here?

    Hi Kim Ryu Hyun,

Please revert any changes you have made in the email_data.php file. Are your members self-activated? If so then you should be editing the ‘Member Account Activation Instructions’ template. Does that work?

    Cheers

    Hi Greg,

My membership preferences is set to no activation required. What should I check in this case?

    Thanks.

    Hi Kim Ryu Hyun,

In that case no email is sent to the user, they are just logged into the site. You will have to change the activation type to email or manual to have an email sent to them.

    Cheers

    Greg

    Hey Greg,

Like you said, the user just logs into the site but they still receive a welcome email nevertheless with no activation required. The problem I have is that I cannot control the content of that mail being sent. It seems like it is Member Account Validation Notification but it is sending the old version of that template. My question to you is how can I update the template being affected.

    Thanks.

I switched my site to no activation required and signed up as new member and no welcome email was sent so I cannot replicate what you are experiencing.

What extensions do you have running?

Ahh… User module was the culprit.

Thanks John. Thanks so much for all your help!
