This add-on integrates CK Editor and CK Finder with Expression Engine 2.1. The add-on provides:

    - Custom Fieldtype for CK Editor (integrated with CK Finder)
    - Custom Fieldtype for CK Finder (file or image browse and select)
    - Stand-alone CK Finder image library wthin Expression Engine
    - Multi-file upload in one submission via multiple File fields
    - Tight integration with EE Upload Destination and permissions, including fine control over permitted file types in each Upload Destination.
    - 100% freedom to configure CK Editor as you want to, with multiple stored configurations
    - Fieldtypes are Matrix compatible

I’m going public with this project in the hope of getting some willing beta testers and useful feedback.

    Thanks Darren,
Will this be turned into commercial add-on or will it remain a freeware?
Looks great on screen shots especially nice integration with matrix.
    Thanks!

Wow this looks pretty nice! How easy is it to customize the tools though (for example removing the alignment tools and strike-through tools, etc.)?

If you’re comfortable editing js source code (in this case as a string within a PHP file), it’s very easy indeed. You have 100% control over all of CK Editor’s features, including toolbar config. Check out the sample config files supplied for alternative configurations

At last, properly integrated file/image management for EE! This is a much needed add on - thank you.

    New release today, beta 0.2
    http://www.dmlogic.com/add_ons/eeck/

Finally sorted out the handling of Thumbnails, but at the expense of backwards compatibility with v0.1. The filesystem layout is locked down now so future upgrades should be smooth.

To make up for that there’s a much improved File fieldtype and some useful new template tags.

I’m going to start (carefully) using this in sites that are under development now as 0.2 is much safer than 0.1!

OK, another release - beta 0.3
    http://www.dmlogic.com/add_ons/eeck/

Bugs aside, that’s it for a now, gotta get on with some actual work!

This release completes all the features I needed including a really nice (I think) direct upload option that makes the CK Finder field type behave like the nGen file field for EE 1.6. See the screen grabs for how it works.

Thank you for contributing to the community Darren. Hoping other developers will follow your path as well. I look forward to the v1 release.

so in order to use CKFinder beyond the 15 day trial you have to pay $59/site or $590/company?  Was hoping this would serve as a nice free replacement for the nGen file field but that’s pretty steep pricing for that functionality imo :(

It’s certainly not for everyone, but it’s cheaper, simpler and prettier than the TinyMCE alternatives.

I tend to budget around $500 for licenses for any given project and CK Finder fits quite happily into that.

It did occur to me that I could make a similar file uploader that integrates with the native file manager, but I just can’t see I’d ever use it over CK Finder.

I may take a look at it at some point (if someone doesn’t beat me to it). Ellis Labs may have improved the File Manager by then too ! (*coughs*)

    Hi Darren,

Does the CKFinder fieldtype work on SAEFs? I’ve been having this issue:

    http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/163541/

And think this may be a good solution, especially if I can find a way to completely hide the “choose from library” option on the frontend.

    Sincerely,
    Matt
