I am using EE 1.6.9 to put together a small commercial site that needs to have member access to “secure” pages.  I am having difficulty finding a way to have user’s login and be directed to the “secure” page.  I know that there is a “Members Module” that most likely does this, but the site is currently built off of the Core version, which does not have it.

I also cannot get myself to purchase EE 2.0 for $300… it’s a small site that I’m not making much on (and it’s already built in 1.6.9) and all I need to do is allow people to login.  I would think there would be an easier way to do this even without having the “Members Module”.

Any suggestions?

Take a look at Template access but I believe that may depend on the Member Module also.

Also note that if you purchase EE 2.x you also get EE1.6.9 which would give you the member module

So, if I bought 2.0, I can get a full version of 1.6.9 to use for this project… and then I can still use 2.0 for another project?  Or would I only be able to use either/or for a single poject? 

I would be up for that, since then I could hold onto the 2.0 license for a bigger project.

EECore’s license does not permit use on commercial sites; only on non-profit/personal sites.

Between that and the need for the member module, commercial is the right license for that project.

Ok, is it possible to still purchase the commercial license for 1.6.9?  I would be fine with that since I believe that was $100.  Or would I have to pay the $300 and also upgrade to 2.0 in order to upgrade the license to commercial?

The commercial license for EE 1 was $249.95.  EE 2 had a moderate price increase of $50 to $299.95.  We no longer sell EE 1, however, when you purchase an EE 2 commercial license, you can choose to download and use either EE 1 or EE 2.
