I have developed many EE sites, never had such an issue. We keep getting 500 Internal Server Error on pages of our website. It can happen on any page, randomly.

Tried troubleshooting with GoDaddy. They could not find the issue. The server log indicates something wrong with index.php file of EE. Only thing I changed in this file, after install was qtype value to 2 to force query strings, which I always do.

[Tue Aug 3 08:06:51 2010] [error] [client 72.94.171.198] Premature end of script headers: /var/chroot/home/content/h/e/r/heritageci/html/site/index.php

I tried to replace EE files, installed fresh. Still keep getting 500 Internal Server Error.
EE version is 1.6.9 Build: 20100430

Please help. This is killing me.

Gary, do you have other EE installations working on this server? Those types of errors are generally out of EE’s control. Try checking PHP’s memory limit to ensure it’s at least in the 32MB range.

Brandon, this is the only EE install on this hosting account.
memory_limit is 64M for both local and master.

The server log indicates something wrong with index.php file of EE.

Just to clarify, almost all actions in content management systems (including EE) take place via the index.php file, so that error is unfortunately too vague to be of use. If you already had other EE installations working on this host I would start looking at file corruption, but as it stands this looks like a server issue that is out of EE’s control.

    Brandon,

I have been banging my head against the wall for quite some time trying to figure this out. Looks like we are gonna have to change the host. Although I have many other EE sites running just fine on GoDaddy, this one does not want to.

    Thanks for your help anyway.

If they can’t help you pinpoint this issue any further this might in fact be the best course of action. Let us know how it goes, please.
