    Just downloaded EE 2.1
When I make a new template and enter some information in it and click “View Rendered Template” the new template and new content show exactly what was entered.

But, when I edit the same template and make changes, click “update” or even “Update and Finished” the file is saved with the changes.  However, when i click “View Rendered Template” it will only show the content that was initially entered when the template was made.  (even thought the edited file was saved with the new content).

“Save Revision” box is Also Checked.

    I obviously overlooked a setting…  any suggestions!

    Wooden Thumb,

Are you saving templates as files?

    Wooden Thumb,

Do the changes appear if you refresh the page in your browser?

No the changes do not appear after a refresh….
The only way the changes appear is if I rename the file… and then click “View Rendered Template”.
After the initial viewing though i can modify and save as much as I want (the file does save with the modified data) but the changes will not render.

    Wooden Thumb,

    No…. should I be??

No you don’t have to. It was just that if you were , then it was another route to explore to troubleshoot this.

Can you confirm if this is just for this one template or others as well?

Do you have caching turned on for this particular template? You will find under Edit Preferences for that particular template

I made a new template group and then a new template….  on the initial entry/save of the template the page rendered fine, all future updating of the template did not render as edited ....  the file was saved and reopened with the edited information in tact.

Caching is turned off for all templates.

I suspect some server-side caching is in play that you may not have control over. Have you run previous versions of EE on this host before? Do you have a local server (MAMP/WAMP) to test on?

I will check on the server Caching…..

No I have never run EE at all….  enthusiastic newbie!!

Never had a real need for a local server…  I will be setting up one shortly (WAMP) would be the easiest.

I take it that I can download EE210 that I have a commercial license for onto my “newly” setup local server? Don’t know about the licensing issues concerning that. Let me know if there is a procedure to use it on a local server….  In the mean time,  I will do my best to check on the server caching…

    Thanks for your help!

    Wooden Thumb,

There’s no license problem with running it on your local server. You just can’t have two separate live sites sharing the same license.

Let us know what you find on the server caching issue.

    Here’s the scoop…

I created a local host (xampp) downloaded EE,  setup and configuration worked smoothly.

I tested on my localhost, all updated/viewing~rendering worked just fine performing the same operation as on the internet server.  On my PC I used Apache which is the only difference between the localhost and the internet server. After talking to the tech for the internet server he said they were ‘Not’ running Apache but IIs.

Any thoughts for the tech of the IIs server running version 6, which apparently has no caching settings?

    Hi Wooden Thumb,

Can you please download our Server Wizard and run that on your live server to make sure that it does indeed support the basic requirements of running EE satisfactorily? That said, even if that runs successfully it may not point to cause of this issue but let’s get that out of the way before doing anything else.

    Cheers

    HI Greg,

I did that before I downloaded EE..

So, Yes it did meet the requirements.

    With that said, what’s next??

CACHING….  seems to be a problem no matter where EE is installed..!!

    Now ON MY LOCAL HOST
Editing a file in EE and then trying to “view Rendered Template” keeps/renders the old file (the file edited saved/closed out and came back up with the changes)....  so I have the same problem on my local host as on the internet server.

    Hi Wooden Thumb,

    Just so I’m clear:

    1. You can create a brand new template group
    2. You can edit the index template within that group within the CP
    3. You can add any text and hit save
    4. In another browser tab (keeping the CP open in your original tab) you can access that template and it shows the simple text you just added
    5. You go back to the first tab and edit/change the simple text in that template and hit save
    6. You go to the other tab and hit refresh
    7. Your new template edits/changes do not appear at all

Is that correct? And if so, this is exactly the same behaviour as on your live server?

    Cheers

    Greg
