I am on expression engine 1.6.8 and I keep getting logged out of cpanel. This worked yesteray. Same computer, same internet connection. I tried the session preferences but switching to cookies only or session id only makes me just jump back to cpanel home instead of logged out. anything i can look at?

Are you in a private browsing/incognito mode? How long do you stay logged in before you get logged out?

I am not in private browsing mode. Just regular FF or IE on a regular windows XP machine.

Time until I get logged out is different. sometimes I can click a few things and try to save a setting before I get logged out, sometimes it happens on the first click. so different every time.

when I change the session to ‘cookies only’ I dont get logged out but I get kicked back to cpanel. Again, this happens faster some times and slower other times.

this same issue is happening with all my ee installations. could there be a problem with my ISP? I am currently in europe and my server is in the us. Is there an issue with that? I know all my sites work fine when I access them from the US.

florian, what I suspect is happening is that your IP address is changing rapidly. If that happens mid-session the control panel will log you out as a security precaution. So yes, unfortunately it’s likely a problem with your European ISP. Try logging in from a different connection.

I found a fix for now. This will work until I get back to the US in a few weeks.

I did the following:
Admin ›  System Preferences ›  Security and Session Preferences

control panel session type: cookies only
Process form data in Secure Mode?: No
Require IP Address and User Agent for Login?: No
Time Interval for Lockout: 45
