Hello. I’m trying to update from 1.6.9 to 2.1.0 but getting the following error on the second page of the wizard…

    ExpressionEngine Installation and Update Wizard
    The following error occurred:

Unable to connect to your database using the configuration settings found in the following file: expressionengine/config/database.php file. Please correct the settings so that the update can proceed.

If you have questions regarding the above errors please visit our Support Resources page or contact ExpressionEngine technical support.

...the database.php file is empty and the config.php has been copied from the previous install to system/expressionengine/config - permissions on both files has been changed to 666

I have also tested the database connection using the details in config.php which work fine.

I upgraded another site last week without any issues.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated?

It looks like my server does not meet the minimum requirements for EE 2.0 as it’s running MySQL 4.0.24, which I guess may have something to do with the issues I’m having.

I don’t know if that is the only reason, but yes, you must at least use MySQL 4.1. Is upgrading not an option? The extended (!) support for 4.0 ended on 2008-09-30, that for 4.1 on 2009-12-31. You should probably be using 5.1 or at the very least 5.0.

Thanks Ingmar. Upgrading is not an option for the time being on this site as it’s handled by my client. I will continue using 1.6.9 until I can get them switch.
