I’ve got a member who simultaneously changed his email and upgraded his computer. He has forgotten his password, and since he changed his email, can’t get a new one sent to him. Is there a way that as admin and owner, I can retrieve it for him?

There is not way to retrieve the password, but you can set a new one for him, or change his mail address, as a Superadmin. You can do that via the CP easily.

On a slight tangent: you can also “Log in as member” without knowing their password when you go to edit their settings. It may come in handy sometime.

    Does that help, jretzer?

However when you log in as a member you still can’t change their password/email without knowing their current password.

Personally I would just change their email using phpmyadmin.

That’s true Sean, I just discovered this today.

This is not the case. If you are SuperAdmin you can change their password without having to fill in Current Password field. Can you confirm this please? What version and build of EE?

    John,

That was my experience ages ago and I assumed it hadn’t changed. I just checked on my install and it does work - new to me.

Very good. Does that make sense, jretzer? Any unresolved tech support issues?

I’m using EE 1.6.9 and when I’m logged in as Superadmin it still asks that I enter the current password for the user before I’m allowed to update the password. Even if I log in as Superadmin and then click to Log in as Member and then go to their settings, it’s the same.

You can just leave the field empty…

I admit it’s not completely obvious, perhaps, so don’t feel too bad 😊 So, any outstanding issues before I close this thread?

None here. I hope our rambling ended up helping jretzer.
