    Hi,
I’ve got the members group set up so that they can Publish and Edit in the news channel.

I’ve disallowed for the rest, terms and conditions, about us etc

With version 1 on a different site I had the same set up but the members could edit the other channels posts but not publish to them.

I want the member group to be able to publish and edit news but for all other channels only to be able to edit.

Any ideas what am I missing with version 2?

Not sure if this is technical support or a how to problem

Couldn’t you use a system of custom statuses? Let one group access the “Published” status and the others not.

    Hi Imar,

Thanks for getting back to me so quick.

This is new to me, are there any help files I can follow to do this. I assume version 2 handles these things differently to how I’ve done it with version 1?

Rich, is this an upgrade or a new install of EE? Which version/build of ExpressionEngine 2.x are you using? You can find that out at the bottom of any control panel page.

The current version of the 2.x branch is 2.10 and the build is 20100712..

    Hi Sue,

It’s a brand new install of 2.10 and the build is 20100712

Not sure if related but if I go to edit preferences on Channel Management on a Channel which happens to be in a Template Group other than Default Template, then I get the following php errors:

Twist, take a look at this post for fixing the above issue.

Ingmar’s suggestion regarding the statuses is a good one; EE2 isn’t particularly different in this regard.

Cheers Brandon, that sorted the php errors. Will look into Ingmar’s suggestion on statuses.

Thank you all for your help, much appreciated.

Hi just wanted to come back to this, I can’t see what the difference is between ee1 and ee2.

I’ve set up the member group on version 1 which allows them to publish in the news channel and only edit the other sections like about us etc.

I’ve followed the same set up in version 2 but they can only publish and edit in the news.

    Am I missing something?

Have attached some of the settings…..

    Hi Twist,

Which version and build of 1.x had you setup to do this? Have you looked at setting this up with statuses as Ingmar and Brandon suggest?

    Cheers

Hi Greg, after much head scratching I’ve realised whats happening, I’ve got 4 Weblogs all the other pages are made up using playa and relationships, so when I thought I’d set up a member to publish in 4 weblogs but only edit the others I was wrong.

I’ll be happy to give statuses a go but not sure how to use them, couldn’t find any info on how to use them. Any advice on how I can get statuses to help me achieve this.

Thanks for getting back to me

There’s an entry in the wiki on how to setup a status based workflow. Should get you started.
