Hello,

I’ve been attempting to set up a second site using MSM. Yesterday I successfully upgraded to 2.0.1. [EDIT!: 2.1.0]

Today, I began the process of setting up a subdomain for the second site. I had used FTP to create a new folder in the root, added the second site in the Control Panel, and then attempted to upload a new theme (from Woothemes, recommended elsewhere in the support section) for the second site.

(FYI: My understanding was that this new theme should be in the original site’s themes folder, not some new themes folder in the new subdomain. So I added it to the themes folder in my original site’s root, following Woothemes instructions.)

At any rate, now when I try to return to my control panel to complete the set-up, I get an error: Unable to load the requested file: _shared/menu/item_parent.php

I don’t know how to revert or proceed as I am basically locked out of my control panel. Using FTP, I can see that the mentioned file is where it’s supposed to be.

Has anyone encountered this? Any advice to help me out?

Hi Eric,

I’m not sure if you can use a site theme to setup an MSM site. My understanding is that’s only when doing the initial install of ExpressionEngine, so you’ll want to double-check with WooThemes on that.

Site themes such as WooThemes should go into /themes/site_themes. For now, go ahead and remove whatever files were added and let’s see if that gets you back into the CP.

I gave up on the MSM approach, opting for two completely separate licenses/hosting packages for the two sites. It might be worth making this clearer in the MSM sales pitch (not being snide, but I never saw anything saying this couldn’t be done; luckily I have another smaller site project that will allow me to use the MSM license I bought).

For anyone who encounters this thread in the future, I was able to gain access to my CP only after using FTP to remove all the files I’d uploaded in my attempt to install the new theme for the second site.
