I’m having the same problem on 1.6.9. I have a member group, either based on Super Admins, or created from scratch, that I can’t get able to edit categories. They get a “You are not authorized to access this page” error.

I have tried toggling the settings for categories within member group preferences, as well as selecting and unselecting the member group in each category group’s preferences. Nothing appears to be working.

    Steve,

Was your version of 1.6.9 an upgrade or a fresh install?
What build is it? You can find that in the footer of your cp

It was an upgrade of 1.6.8, the build is 20100430.

Steve, to clarify, you’ve tried creating a brand new group since updating to 1.6.9 and you’re still getting the error? Please walk us through exactly what steps you take when creating the new group from scratch.

I have only created groups since updating to 1.6.9. The first group was created based on Super Admins, and the second group was created from scratch. Both had the category group assigned to them, as well as the member group settings for category editing and deleting set, and neither can access categories when logged in.

If you create a new group based off of Superadmin and don’t modify any of the settings, is a member of that group still not able to access categories?

I’m afraid I’m not able to reproduce on my 1.6.9 install, but it was clean.

If I don’t modify any of the settings, it does work. The problem comes when I try to change:

    Can access ADMIN page
    and
Can administrate channels and channel preferences

To “no”, because I think it’s awkward for the client to click into the admin tab while they don’t have access to any of the settings pages within. I also don’t want the client to be able to change channel preferences.

I thought on previous sites that I was able to do this, but maybe not. I’m trying to strip away access to most things aside from channel and specific module management.

    Steve,

Ok I think the issue is how you approach editing categories.

With your current configuration, is the member able to Edit Categories from the Publish or Edit page? That’s usually where I get clients to administer categories from.

That way you can leave the Admin turned off

    Does that help?

Aha, yeah, I’m trying to make a tab for them that takes them right to the Categories admin page. What settings do I need to leave checked in order to have them use that link? Will it work with both ‘access admin’ and ‘administer channels’ turned off?

    Steve,
If you want to continue to use it that way then you will need to have the Access Admin setting turned on I’m afraid.
