I’ve wasted a day with this—on my vacation, no less. I thought it was something wrong with my OS X testing server, so I reinstalled everything from scratch. Drupal installed without a problem, as did WordPress. I’m getting the same “Your config file does not appear to be formatted correctly.” error as everyone else.

This was in beta for how long?

    WHAT I DID:
Downloaded (x3) ExpressionEngine 2.x Commercial License Update with alleged “hotfixes”
Created the ee database in phpMyAdmin
Ran the server wizard - everything comes up as supported (Mac OS X 10.6.4; Apache 2.2.14; PHP 5.3.0; mySQL 5.140)
    Uploaded the Expression Engine files.
    Changed the necessary permissions.
Accessed /system (ran the Installation Wizard; I haven’t changed the /system directory name yet).

    WHAT I EXPECTED:
The ExpressionEngine installer to load and appear.

    WHAT HAPPENED:
“Your config file does not appear to be formatted correctly. ” error message - plain text in the browser

I need to get cracking on a site build ASAP. I would download 2.0 but I can’t find it anywhere. EE can we have an update please?

Hi, folks - if you upgraded to 2.1 before today, then you will need to download a fresh copy and perform a build update.  That will fix the issue where the Agile Theme does not show if you renamed the system directory.

If you are now receiving the “Your config file does not appear to be formatted correctly.” error - then please download a fresh copy and upload system/index.php to its respective location on your installation.  That should get you fixed up.

I apologize for the difficulties with the installer; I believe we have them all fixed now.  Thank you for your patience.

I only downloaded this about an hour and one half ago. Is this update more recent? If not, the issue still exists.

After re-downloading and updating system/index.php - I still receive the following error:

Your config file does not appear to be formatted correctly.

I had the same problem until I specifically told my browser to go to the system directory: http://domain.com/system - from there the install proceeded.

I downloaded a copy at 5:30pm on 7/14 and am still getting the same error message as everyone else, despite following the directions to the letter.

    ....

A version downloaded at 7:30pm seems to be working.

    Hi EE people,

I was having the same problem as well.

Just downloaded the fresh copy as Lisa suggested at exactly 2200h EST on 14.7.2010 .  And it is all systems go!

    Problem seems to be fixed.

    Thank Lisa!
