    Nobody can log in, including people trying to register for the first time.

    Ian - did you try the cookie prefix I recommended?

  • #18 / Jul 15, 2010 9:10pm

    You mean:

    $conf[‘admin_session_type’] = ‘s’;

    in the config.php file?  I guess I’m not putting it in the correct spot in the file.  I do get a white screen, sometimes with the code of the file.

    No, try adding this:

    $conf[‘cookie_prefix’] = ‘something’;

    replace “something” with something short that relates to your site.  Let’s see if that helps.

    Nope - didn’t work.  I don’t have a clue what’s going on with this issue.  I’ve reuploaded most of the files and cannot see anything different happening.  I haven’t touched the Discussion module files, but I can’t see how that might be a problem.

    I’ll try it I guess, but it would likely be far more efficient for me to delete the whole shooting match and reinstall everything.

    If you think this might be a programming glitch in the module, let me know if you want to get into my account to play around.  Otherwise, it might be time for me to start from scratch.  Fortunately, I haven’t got a lot of novel stuff in those files, and if I back up and restore my templates and themes, I should be OK.

    If you could let me know in the next hour or so, I’d appreciate it.

    Thanks,

    Ian

    Prosocial Science,

    I logged in and followed these steps:

    1. In config.php, I removed the line:

    $conf['cookie_prefix'] = "s";

    as I think you were confusing it with what really needed to be added, which was:

    $conf['admin_session_type'] = "s";

    That got me in, which indeed indicated a cookie domain issue.

    2. Under Admin ›  System Preferences ›  Cookie Settings you had your cookie domain as ‘ProsocialScience.org’. This is incorrect as it lacks the starting period, doesn’t match the real URL of the installation (you’re using a temporary URL currently, right?) and I’d suggest keeping it all lowercase.  For now, I simply removed the cookie domain altogether which is usually fine (you’ll need it if/when using the MSM)

    I’ve removed the aforementioned overrides from your config.php and you should be able to log in on the front-end and control panel normally again. Let us know to confirm you’re up and running, and thanks for your patience.

    Super!  Thanks ever so much for your help!  I TRULY do appreciate it.  Everything seems to be working beautifully except the captchas aren’t working for when people try to register.

    I set the permissions for the images/captcha directory and the files within it to 777, but still no change.  Both GD Support and JPG support are enabled, and captchas are enabled in the control panel.

    I’ll putz around some and see if I can figure it out.

    Hi, Ian - glad to hear your login is working.

    Can you please start a new thread about the captcha issue?  This one is already pretty long. =)

    Thank you!
