    Prosocial Science,

I normally have no problem getting in to my EE control panel, but now I cannot get in.

What has changed? Did you perform an upgrade?

When I indicate that I have forgotten my password, I follow the instructions but in the end,

Is the this the forgot password link in your CP login page? Have you tried clearing your browser cache and cookies and restarting it? Take Roboform out of the equation and manually type what you received in your forgot password email

The email address is the same as the fictitious name in the forum (I was testing the forum).

Can you confirm this? You are using your SuperAdmin account for a fictitious member in your forum for testing? You cant have 2 members with the same email address.

    1.  Nope, no upgrade since the last time I had it working.
    2.  Yes, that is the “forgot password” link.  I’ve cleared my cache and cookies, and restarted.  I took Roboform out of the equation and manually typed what I recieved.
    3.  I believe the problem is that I used the same email addresses for two members, likely one of which is the SuperAdmin account.
    4.  The bogus member can get in but has no admin authority.

It doesn’t look as though anybody can log in to the forum either.  I used a different fake account with correct user and passwords.

So, I can’t log on to the EE Control Panel OR the Discussion Forum.

Would it fix the problem if I just copied over the whole site with my recent backup?

    Ian,

I believe the problem is that I used the same email addresses for two members, likely one of which is the SuperAdmin account.

EE doesn’t allow you to create 2 members with the same email so I am not sure how that happened

It doesn’t look as though anybody can log in to the forum either.

Have you got a link to your site?

It seems that nobody can log on to the forum, nor can I get into the EE control panel.

    Ian,

What exactly happens when you try to log in to the control panel?

  • #7 / Jul 13, 2010 9:02pm

EE control panel:  It just keeps presenting the login form again.

Forum:  It seems that when a registered user tries to use the discussion forum, it tells them that they are logged in, but they really aren’t.  It leaves them as a guest.

The two problems are related chronologically and it seems, logically too.

I need to get the forum operational again.  Should use my backup to copy over the files in use on the site?

Ian, add this to your config.php file:

    $conf['admin_session_type'] = 's';

Also try setting it to ‘c’. Do either of those let you log in to the CP?

  • #10 / Jul 14, 2010 9:59pm

    Nope.  No change.

Should I copy over any particular files, or do I need to reinstall?

    Hi, Ian,

Do you have another install running?  You might try setting a cookie prefix in your config file to avoid any conflicts.  Let us know if that helps.

No need to reinstall, no. Refreshing all of your files might be a good idea, the way you’d do with a Build update. This will make certain that there are no file corruption issues.

By refreshing, you mean just uploading my backup files to copy over the files on the server?

To refresh files, you’d want re-upload everything from the EE download package except for /system/config.php. Backup everything first, of course.

To clarify, is this “bogus member” really the only person who can login?
