I want to take a moment to share with you our plans for the Support Forums.
As we prepare for EE 2.1, and look at the growth in our community, a forum restructure has become a priority for our support and community needs.
This is an archived forum and the content is probably no longer relevant, but is provided here for posterity.
The active forums are here.

Thanks for the update.
One of the things that stands out to me in this update is
“What does that mean for you? The ExpressionEngine Support Forum Board, as you see it now, will be placed into an archive, read-only mode at a new URL. The forum board will still be searchable and accessible, but no new content will be added.”
However in a recent post by Leslie Camacho it was mentioned that
“New EE 2.1 purchases will also have access to EE 1.×. You will still be able to start with EE 1.x and migrate to 2.x at your convenience just like you can now with the EE 2 beta. We will offer this through Dec. 31st, 2010. After that, EE 1.x will not be available with new purchases but will continue to be available for download if you own a license.”

I can’t help but recognizing how great a support resource the current 1.6.x forums are. Not only for people seeking help from EL, but they have also become the home of “support” for hundreds of addons the community has developed and released.
In light of there being a lot of people who have held off on the 2.x line until it is out of beta. I would assume there is still a lot of addon developers who are giving support on this forum.
Would it be possible to hold off on the “Read Only” status of the message board until Dec. 31st, 2010 when people are no longer able to get licenses of the 1.6.x line?
Thanks

There will still be 1.x forums (click through Lisa’s image to see the full size version) and those forums will be very active for sure. And searches for existing content are still possible. So, there’s no loss. :-D

EE 1 users will be able to post on the restructured forums to receive help and support. This forum restructure does not remove support for EE 1.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I missed that in the image (might not be a bad idea to call that out in the news article).
Creating a new thread for support of an active addon isn’t a big deal either.
Thanks

Right under the image it says “(click to see full version)”, Tom. =)
Thanks for the feedback!

I noticed the screenshot still has a Pro-Network forum. What is going on with the Pro-Network anyway? I’ve been using EE for over a year now, purchased over 15 EE licenses and coded and released commercial sites with all those licenses, but I still can’t join the Pro-Network. I’m not sure how much it would help in marketing my services, but every time I see that Pro-Network logo I get a little irritated.

The Pro Net is top on my personal to do after the launch of EE 2.1. We may even do a little house cleaning prior even. Either way, .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) and tell them Leslie says to send you an application.

Hi, code72 - we’ll have more information about the Pro Network coming up in the future; in the mean-time, you’re welcome to email your concerns about that via our sales page.
Thank you.

Thanks guys. I got nothing but love for EE, so I appreciate being heard.

Just out of curiosity - the community support has been pushed to the bottom, and the tech support forum has been pushed way to the top.
Now my typical routine of using the forums was mainly to stray and help in the community sections, as well as ask most of my questions there - even though i have licenses.
Is this intentional to make tech support the first port of call, using more of your staff hours than community effort? As i imagine this is what will happen now - with the community area receiving a far less share of the traffic?
Or are others way more energetic with their vertical scroll than me and always hit the bottom of the boards!!! 😊

Hi, nevsie -
Yes, the intention is to make Technical Support easier and faster to find especially for EE newcomers who are most likely to need that help.
If you want Community up higher you can collapse categories; or even bookmark the category of interest and go directly there. This will not use more of our staff hours for support as what is within the realm of “technical support” is not changing.

Hi Lisa,
It would be nice if the collapsed categories - stayed collapsed on my return! Either by cookie or control panel preferences!!! But i am sure i will find a routine that will work!!!
In reference to the more tech support hours - i think you will be surprised - but people will use the first option they see that will give them help. Up until now that was community, now it will be technical support - you guys will be getting more posts is my guess/opinion!!! Not a criticism, just a thought for you to consider especially with official EE coming out and more requests for support are bound to come with that too!!!

Hi, nevsie -
If that was true, we’d see a spate of posting on these forums in Pre-Sales and General. While we do occasionally see a posting in the wrong forum; it is not as often as you indicate.
Though it will help to have Technical Support earlier, as those mis-postings into How to are much easier to miss since it’s a very fast-moving forum. If we have to move a few more posts, then that is not a huge drain on time and is part of any forum moderation.
We’d much rather a post end up in Technical Support and need to be moved out than a post end up in another forum - that should be technical support - but gets missed in the daily flow of the forums.

Good move EllisLab, thank you for keeping the forums as resources.
