Server Wizard/Installation Issues (White Screen)

    Hi!

I’ve installed EE2 (paid version) on several servers with no problems in the past and I am in the process of setting up a new site.  I was able to set it up locally with no problem, but when I try on my actual server it fails.  After filling out the form on the installation wizard and pressing “Install ExpressionEngine” I am greeted by a white screen.  After several attempts I tried the Server Wizard.  I uploaded the files, filled out the form and am greeted by a white screen here as well.  I am sure that the issue is database related - don’t think EE is reaching the database.  My guess some sort of permissions issue, but not sure what since I get no errors.  I am able to log into my database server directly using the same user credentials, but I am not sure EE is hitting the database?

Any thoughts or suggestions?  Any common permission issues that could cause this?

    Thanks!

    Guy

Just being able to see an actual error message here would be helpful…

So I tried filling in my DB info into: system/expressionengine/utilities/dbtest.php and executing that page and guess what - an empty blank page!  What does it mean?

Did you move that file to some other place on your server? It probably means there is a (suppressed) PHP error of some sort. What version and build of EE are you using? How much RAM does PHP have in your server environment?

Still working but just ran phpinfo()  and it doesn’t look like my SA enabled MySQL support on that server… that could do it.

Yes, that sounds like a good starting point. Keep us in the loop, please.

I’m also getting a white screen during install.

I’m trying to install EE 2.1.0 Build: 20100712. I was running into the “your config file is not formatted properly” error, so I grabbed a fresh copy of the download with both of yesterday’s hotfixes. Now I can get to the point where I accept the terms and conditions, then….nothing. White screen.

I’ve renamed my system file in index.php.
I have EE 1.6.9 installed and running fine in another directory on this (HostMonster) server.

    Thanks,

    Gayle

@gkboyer, can you try without renaming your system directory? @eguystephens, where are you with this? Do you still require assistance?

I renamed the system folder back to “system” and renamed it “./system” on my index.php file as well. Same issue, I’m afraid - white screen after accepting license terms.

This is the index.php file that’s in the root directory; I haven’t touched the index.php file that’s in the system directory itself.

Also, this is the freelancer’s license, if that makes any difference.

OK, I’ve made incremental progress - I ftp’d a fresh set of files one more time, and now when I accept the terms I actually get to the screen where I can enter my EE license number, DB information, etc. But after I do that - another white screen.

open up your system/index.php file, and look for

    $debug = 0;

Flip that 0 to a 1, and we’ll be able to see what PHP errors you might be encountering.

    OK, here’s the error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function db() in /home1/furlizar/public_html/system/codeigniter/system/core/Loader.php on line 234

    Hi, gkboyer -

Have you also tried with dbtest.php?  That is a standalone db test that would help isolate this issue.

OK, not sure if I did this correctly, but here’s what I did:

    - copied dbtest.php to my root directory
    - entered my db connection info manually
    - called the file from my browser.

    This is what came back:

    >A connection was established to your database server
    >Your database was selected.

Then I removed the modified dbtest.php file from my server, because it gave me the willies.

    gkboyer,

Can you run our Server Wizard just to check support for everything else please.
