It occurred to me the other day that whenever I need to find something EE-related I usually end up searching the same five or six different sites - often in quick succession if I don’t find what I’m after right away. Usually it’s pretty easy to find the right thing but it’s often not as straightforward as it could be. EE’s own search engine is powerful, but it’s no Google.
I was curious to see whether Google’s search API could help to bring results from all of those sites together in one place, so you could easily filter through info from all of them instead of bouncing from one to the other. After surprisingly little effort I had a demo up and running and it seemed to work pretty well, so I’ve put together a simple interface for the results and set up ‘SearchEE’.
I’d be interested to hear what other EE devs make of it. It’s really just a quick proof of concept for now, so there may be the odd bug (if I’m not being paid, I’m not testing in IE 😛), but it is working pretty reliably for me and is definitely a timesaver.
