    Hi all,

    I got a weird one. I built a website and early on I added images and flash. All the previous images and flash files are being displayed properly, but now when I add new images and flash objects they don’t work.

    I have copied the lines that display the old images and flash object and just replaced the file names but for some reason they refuse to display.

    Any idea what could cause that to happen?

    Desperately seeking Susan… I mean help… 😊

    Hi socaprice,

    Do you have a live template we could see this on?

    Cheers

    Hi Greg,

    Thanks for the help.

    I created a template called rightnav that I have embedded into all the other templates. This had been working for a while and now when a company sends me their flash ad to place on the site, I add it the same way I added the previous sample flash ads yet this one does not work. I then went and created a new flash ad myself, just as I did the others and that one does not work in there as well.

    I then decided to create a ad as just a jpeg image and place it on the site and that does not work either.

    Below are the lines of code of the previous ads that worked and still do and the new ones that do not:

    <a href="http://www.karatebda.com">images/shorinPatch.JPG</a>
    <!-- This still works -->
    <a href="http://www.all4fun.bm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">images/all4fun.jpg</a>
    <!-- This still works -->
    {exp:flashplugin file="images/smallAd1.swf" width="125" height="125" quality="high" align="center"}<!-- This still works -->

    <a href="http://belco.bm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">/images/belcoAd.jpg</a><!-- New does not work -->
    {exp:flashplugin file="/images/BELCO_banner_ad.swf" width="120" height="600" quality="high" align="center"}<!-- New does not work -->

    {exp:flashplugin file="/images/typical_Ad2.swf" width="120" height="600" quality="high" align="center"}<!-- This still works -->

    This is a client site but I may be able to give you temp access to look inside and let me know what is going, maybe in a private message?

    Hi socaprice,

    Please check that the permissions of the newly added files are correct and the same as previously added files.

    Cheers

    Hi guys,

    This problem has returned. For some reason the site does not want to display new images or flash yet I have added the flash objects the exact same way previous flash objects that lie just above it were added????

    The site is http://www.bermudaindustry.com I don’t know if it is supposed to do with the hosting site (Engine Hosting) the actual software.

    This has happened in the past, see earlier threads and after battling for a few days into over a week it suddenly worked, now when I come to add another flash ad to the site I am running into the same problem.

    I have verified that the permissions on the existing flash objects are the same as the new flash object yet it still does not work.

    Any answers?

    socaprice,

    do you have any caching set for that template in its preferences?
    If you clear your cache does the new flash show up?

    Hi John,

    No I do not have caching enabled. Never had it set either way. And it does not show up different computers. I went to the admin section and cleared all caches and the problem still exist.

    I just don’t know what is going on and it is very frustrating, the client has people sending him ads and I am struggling to put them on the site. One flash ad I had the company rebuild thinking it was because of the version of Flash they used and that still did not resolve it. I then rebuilt the ad myself using Swishmax and that still did nothing even though I had built other flash samples myself and had them working there.

    Only after a week and a few days it JUST worked with no explanation and now after a month or so, I am placing another flash ad I created myself and that refuses to work.

    If you need access to the site I could provide in a private message.

    My other thinking is that it could be the hosting company Engine Hosting so I am going to post the question there as well, because I have built other sites for other people and I have not run into this problem.

    socaprice, looking at your links.. you need to path from the root. That’s probably all that is wrong.

    file=“images/smallAd1.swf” should be file=”/images/smallAd1.swf”

    If that were only true… :-( as you will see in the links in the earlier threads, some are path from the root and some are not, yet all work. Now I have removed some of those sample ads and put in these new ones, shown below:

    {exp:flashplugin file="/flash/BELCO_banner_ad.swf" width="120" height="600" quality="high" align="center"}

    {exp:flashplugin file="/flash/RaffleAd.swf" width="120" height="394"  version="7" quality="high" align="center"}

    The BELCO ad works but gave the same problem for over a week then magically worked and now after about a month I am putting up another ad, “RaffleAd” and that does not work; and as shown in the code they are identical in plugin and path origination. Maybe my eyes are failing me as I get older, 😊 (got to add humour or I will go crazy).

    Hi socaprice,

    Have you had other visitors to your site reporting that these banners are not displaying properly? I can see them both here. Are you testing the site using only one browser? Have you tried others?

    Cheers

    Yes other visitors had trouble seeing the flash ads. You can see it now because I was up until 2:00 AM Sunday morning with Engine Hosting trying to figure out if it was their servers. Eventually uploaded other files such as the raw swi and sbk files that come with creating a flash movie in Swishmax and then it worked.

    However, that does not explain why it did not work before, as I have created flash files in Swishmax and uploaded them without the accompanying swi and sbk files and they worked. As well the first time the problem occurred the flash file was created by Adobe and it was just the swf file and that did not work for a while and then all of a sudden worked.

    I have to do more tests to determine exactly what is happening, but for now it works. Since the site is live I cannot do too much testing on the page(s) that are giving problems so I may have to duplicate the pages and don’t broadcast to the public, and try to recreate the problem.

    I will update this page with the results.

    Thanks for the help though, however it just seems as if the problem resolved itself, cause I don’t yet know what combination of what I did helped in that fact.

    socaprice,

    Ok glad you are no up and running. Unusual problem alright but it seems the extra resources needs for Swishmax did the trick. I am going to close this out but if you have any more questions feel free to start a new thread.
