I’ve built at least 70 EE sites with 1.x and have built just a few in 2.x, but I’m very very excited about the new version, despite my initital reticence at giving up the old. I’ve always been impressed by the underlying logic behind EE, and it’s flexibility, and those are the two benefits that EE2 really expands on.
At first glance I though much of EE had stayed the same, but I keep finding new things. Here are a few of my favorite features:
The way we can create custom publishing layouts for entry screens is a major major benefit to users. This alone is absolutely amazing.
The new way of managing flat-file templates is more efficient than in the past and makes development smoother, as is the way add-ons are installed.
And, I haven’t seen this documented, but for the first time ever building EE sites (so I assume it’s new with 2.x?) I got a notice (email and CP) that a core file had been changed. Security is so important and that’s an awesome security feature.
Those are just a few things. So thanks, Ellis Lab. I think you’ve created something that is far greater than it may seem to the casual observer.
