First hi to whole EE community.
This is not the right pre-sales question, because I already bought licence. 😊

I come from Joomla, where i have build websites last years. Although J! is a solid CMS, I really spent too much time building custom templates. So templating in EE is something that i want to try.

At the other side this system is new for me and i have to learn many things from beginning.
So, a few question for start:

    1. I need to transform my school site (where i run two separate Joomlas) to EE. Can this be done with multiple site manager, so i dont need to maintain two systems?

    2. Important thing is a photo gallery. What is the best way? Buy some modul/plugin or use chanell/category image fields? (its strange for me - i dont know much about EE, with J! i have >50 free gallery extensions)

    3. I will also need some kind of document management. Some docs (in different format) will be public and some for privat group of users. What is the best way for this?

    4. Maybee someone know if EE can be integrated with Moodle. With integrated i mean users account - or maybee next feature: can EE handle SSO with Shibboleth?

    5. This will be easy question: build intranet pages with EE is not big deal, right? As i see, there is a powerfull user group management? (this is very bad in J!)

    6. What about calendar for school events? Can i have different calendar for different user groups? Which extension is the best for this?

    7. Is there a way to publish articles from frontend?

    8. Pools and forms? Which solution? Could you please point me to starting position and i’ll browse for solution. 😊

    9. Will EE2 be ready for production site until September this year?

    10. Is there any solution for video gallery?

    Sorry for so many question.😊

    Thanks, Saso

Sorry, did i wrote this in wrong forum or my questions are inappropriate?
Maybe i have to read FAQ and study EE by myself. I see, moderators have skip my topic.

    Anyway, i’m excited about EE2.

    cheers, Saso

    Saso,

Sorry this got missed somehow. Let me see if I can answer your questions:

    1. I need to transform my school site (where i run two separate Joomlas) to EE. Can this be done with multiple site manager, so i dont need to maintain two systems?

Do you mean running two separate sites, owned by the same entity? Yes, the MSM excels as this. Just keep in mind you’ll be sharing a few things like members etc (this might actually be an advantage).

    2. Important thing is a photo gallery. What is the best way? Buy some modul/plugin or use chanell/category image fields? (its strange for me - i dont know much about EE, with J! i have >50 free gallery extensions)

Yes, most users use a dedicated channel for that, optionally using a few third-party add-ons. It’s definitely possible.

    3. I will also need some kind of document management. Some docs (in different format) will be public and some for privat group of users. What is the best way for this?

I suppose you could do something like that with a channel and a few clever templates, perhaps a little code; EE ist not a document management system, though.

    4. Maybee someone know if EE can be integrated with Moodle. With integrated i mean users account - or maybee next feature: can EE handle SSO with Shibboleth?

Unfortunately I am not familiar with either package.

    5. This will be easy question: build intranet pages with EE is not big deal, right? As i see, there is a powerfull user group management? (this is very bad in J!)

Yes, EE has built-in user management; you can restrict access to any page on a per-group basis.

    6. What about calendar for school events? Can i have different calendar for different user groups?

EE does have a calendar, but it’s somewhat bare-bones at this point. You can either use another channel with some custom code or a third-party add-on.

    7. Is there a way to publish articles from frontend?

Yes. Take a look at the Stand-Alone Entry Form. It’s made for this very purpose.

    8. Pools and forms? Which solution? Could you please point me to starting position and i’ll browse for solution. 😊

This would have to be a third-party solution. Nothing built into EE itself.

    9. Will EE2 be ready for production site until September this year?

EE 2.0 PB is available right now. The final 2.1 version is to be released “soon”.

    10. Is there any solution for video gallery?

Again, not a built-in feature, unfortunately, though I don’t see why it shouldn’t be possible.

    Thanks Ingmar

I’ll try some solution and then post more specific question.

i think Solspaces extensions might help you with a number of bits:
Calender and polls and forms, etc.

But then for other extensions have a look at devot-ee.com
There are some good secure file management facilities out there that protect links to secure them - link locker might be of use (if i have the name right!).
