Hello there, hopefully somebody has some troubleshooting suggestions that don’t involve “just do a fresh install of Expression Engine”... 😉

So I have a comment form just like the standard comment form example in the user guide, but for some reason it allows submission of a completely blank form without returning any error messages.  I get error messages when I use the member login and purposefully type an incorrect username or password, so I know that at least some of the system error messages are working correctly.  Anyone have any suggestions?  I’m stuck!

    Hi rapturestudio,

Which version and build of EE are you using? I assume you are testing when logged in as a Superadmin, have you also tested the form when logged in as a regular Member?

Sorry, should have mentioned more details… I’m on EE 1.6.9, am allowing non-member comments, and have tested commenting as SuperAdmin logged in and non-logged in.

    Hi rapturestudio,

Please list which modules and extensions you have installed. Also, are you using an .htaccess file you remove index.php from the URL?

    Cheers

    Greg

We’re not using .htaccess to remove index.php, and have added SimpleTags 1.7.4g, Freeform 3.0.0, Structure 2.1.1 (though the weblog that contains our comments “stuff” is not being controlled by Structure), and the EE Forum 2.1.2 modules.  Extensions we have installed are: Fieldframe 1.3.4, Structure 2.1.1, Multi Relationship Checkboxes 1.0.6, SimpleTags 1.7.4, LG Better Meta 1.9.1, and jQuery for the control panel 1.1.1.

For testing, please temporarily disable extensions via the large green button in the Extension Manager and let us know if there’s any change.

Has any progress been made on this issue? We’re experiencing the same issue.
    Using EE 1.6.9, FieldFrame 1.4.2, Structure 2.1.1.

    Hi Fred,

Can you verify that you’ve removed any .htaccess files and tested without extensions? Have you got a link?

Just to chime in quickly, I still haven’t figured this out either… had to put it to the side for a while!

Can you confirm that the comment isn’t posted to the database; you just aren’t seeing a validation error?
