    Hi,

I’ve been looking all around my CP and the User Guide and forums and can’t figure this one out. It’s probably easy.

The site I created for my client is a members only blog. The site consists only of her entries as she travels. I want to simply have members get email notifications when a new entry is made.

Looking in (I’ve renamed “Weblog” to “Section”):  CP Home >  Admin >  Section Administration >  Section Management >  Edit Section Preferences > Notification Preferences, I see where I can add a recipient list manually, separated by commas. Is there a way I can just have members notified automatically, easily without adding each email manually - we currently have over 25 members and new members are being added daily. It will be difficult to keep up with that.

Just to clarify, I do not want members notified when comments are made. Not the issue.

    Thank you,
    Pete

Out of the box the only other options would be…
    - RSS
    or
    - mailing list where she can send an email (manually).

    Thank you for reply.

You say “out of the box” - are there Add-on’s, plugin’s that may help?

Just don’t want to be constantly monitoring. If not I’ll have her use the Mailing List.

While back I saw some discussions about it but I really don’t know if there is one.

Thanks for the assist, lebisol. To keep this discussion (potentially) alive I’ll move to Howto.

Take a look at either Update Message or Snitch Member Groups. I’m pretty sure that one of those should help you to do what you need here.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

He might need “New Message” vs. Update…but I have not used either of the mentioned tools.

The Update Message extension does actually send out e-mails on creation of entries too despite its name so should hopefully suffice here if it can be gotten to work that is.

    Best wishes,

Wow, I really appreciate the helpful dialog here!

Followed the suggestion, tried Snitch, then Snitch Member Groups and after making a new entry and submitting I get this warning:

Notice: Undefined index: notify_on_update in /homepages/9/d239598771/htdocs/sdi/_systemname/extensions/ext.snitch_member_groups.php on line 647

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /homepages/9/d239598771/htdocs/sdi/_systemname/extensions/ext.snitch_member_groups.php:647) in /homepages/9/d239598771/htdocs/sdi/_systemname/core/core.functions.php on line 315

    WTF??

I tried just Snitch and got a very similar message when in the Extensions manager > Snitch > Settings and clicking submit (but submitting a new post worked, go figure).

It works, sends emails out but the warnings are disturbing.

I’m trying the EntryMailing Extension tomorrow. See how it does.

Again, thank you for all the contributions!

    Okay,

I have used, tested and retested the Entry Mailing extension, and it’s just what I needed. Pretty awesome capabilities. Sometimes you have to pay (a little - $25) to get the better things.

    I highly recommend it.

Nice, hey time is $ and if you spend 3hrs trying to make it work…well that surely is more than cost of the plugin and developers can use a few coins for their hard work 😉
