    I’ve never noticed this before:

When you are editing custom weblog fields under Admin->Weblog Adminstration->Field Groups->Custom Fields, the Default Text Formating for This Field drop down has a “Edit List” link beside it.  The “Edit List” link is not present when creating a custom field.

Clicking on the link shows a form where you can append additional items to the drop down list of format options.  Among the usual items like br, xhtml, and none there is a list of plug-ins on the site.

Now common sense would say that you would only want plug-ins added to the format options if they actually formatted the content of the field.  And since the formatting is only applied when the weblog module extracts the data and passes it to the template engine, it would follow that the plug-in would not have any affect until the data interacts with the template engine.

So the really BIG questions are:

If a default field format is selected that is a plug-in:
            is that plug-in called?
            what calls it?
the weblog module or the template engine or some other module like typography?

When an item is select to be added to the option drop down, that item is only added to that particular field’s choices and no where else.  Why?

    Is this a hidden feature?
