What is the purpose of the settings labelled “Deny Access if No IP Address is Present” in “Throttling Settings”?

How is it possible for a client not to provide an IP when accessing the website?

I’m quite curious about this 😊

I know that you turn that setting off if you’re running locally. But not certain about the real world purpose. Let me ask the dev team, but want to set your expectations.. everyone is out of town this week except for Ingmar and myself, so there may be a delay in a response.

Thanks… it is not hugely important - it’s merely to satisfy my curiosity 😊

No worries, will respond back if I hear anything.

Usually if there’s no IP address present it means something’s not quite right: it could be an attempt to spoof it, perhaps there are some other network etc issues… Normal client requests should always provide a proper IP address, so EE gives you the option to block those that don’t.

I’m trying to troubleshoot a situation which may or may not be related to throttling… what does a user see if throttling is triggered?

404 page? Nothing? Some other message?
