Unable to update throttling settings

    My client says they’re occasionally getting an error “Sorry, You have exceeded the allowed page load frequency.” I contacted EngineHosting and they pointed me to the EE throttling settings. I’m able to change the “Custom Message”, but whenever I try to change any of these 4 fields (Enable Throttling, Maximum Number of Page Loads, Time Interval (in seconds) & Lockout Time (in seconds)), I get a success message at the top of the screen but the field values don’t change from the defaults.

    Any idea what’s causing this?

    Please make sure that your config.php can be written to.

    Permission on system/config.php is set to 666, that’s correct, right? Those 4 settings still won’t change.

    Can you upgrade to the latest version? It’d help us to rule out file corruption and make sure we’re on the same page in terms of code.

    I upgraded to the latest version, but I’m still unable to make changes from the control panel. I was able to manually change the settings in config.php with a text editor, and those changes were reflected in the control panel. But it would be nice to figure out what’s going on.

    Thanks.

    Jim, any config.php settings trump what you set inside the control panel. What lines do you have in your config.php file?

    These lines were already in my config.php file:

    $conf['enable_throttling'] = "y";
    $conf['max_page_loads'] = "15";
    $conf['time_interval'] = "5";
    $conf['lockout_time'] = "30";

    This is was also in my CP. Since none of the changes were going thru, I manually changed max_page_loads to 30 and that change was also reflect in the CP.

    If you remove those lines, you’ll be able to set them manually inside the control panel. They are a leftover from before EE 1.6.

    That worked. I deleted the lines in the config.php and now I’m able to control the settings from my CP.

    Thanks for your help Sue.
