Is there any way of allowing users to create and then edit an entry until the point where the entry is assigned a certain status?

E.g. An entry is created with status ‘open’, get’s edited and later is assigned the status ‘closed’ - at that point is there an automatic way to prevent further edits (except by admin)?

I can’t think a way to do this natively in EE 1 - but it might be possible?

Are there any add-ons which would allow this?

    Thanks

    Adam,

I can’t think of any off the top of my head.I would start first with a search of http://www.devot-ee.com. Add-ons appear there every day that still surprise me. This thread may be better off in General Discussion as opposed to Technical Support. Do you wish me to move it?

I did have a quick look at devot-ee.

    Sure, go ahead and move.

No problems. Moving for you. You may get more of a response here hopefully.

Maybe I’m missing something - but have you looked into creating two member groups:

1 - For content contributors.  This group would only have the rights to see the to see the “pending” status

    2. For Admins - this group would have rights to see both pending and closed statuses.

Or do you want the content contributors to be able to change the status to closed?

    Hi Michael

Thanks for your suggestion. While that might work, I don’t think EE < 2 has the option of restricting member groups by weblog status. (Weblogs, yes, but not status).

    Or am I missing something?

You can restrict what status a member group can assign to an entry. But - this doesn’t prevent contributors from editing an entry with an “open” status (and setting it back to the pending status they have access to).

Is it important to maintain the author name of the submitter?  You could setup a content contributor member group that can’t see/edit posts assigned to others.

Then have the admins re-assign the author as part of approval. This would remove that entry from being visible to the contributor.

Only being able to edit posts with the statuses they have access to would be a good FR, I think.
