Anyone want to help me brainstorm a list of pros and cons for using the native Mailing List module versus a third party service like MailChimp or Campaign Monitor? I’ve got a client who doesn’t want to use a third party service.

First of all, if I use EE’s module, should I go with sendmail or SMTP? The site’s on enginehosting.

    EE Pros:
Easiest to integrate (though I know there’s Champagne and SL MailChimp Subscribe)
    Cost effective

    EE Cons:
3rd party services (probably) have better deliverability rates
Harder for a client to skin/design

I would love to hear some feedback on this, thanks.

Also, it looks like the Communicate tab takes straight HTML, which would kind of make it hard for the client to administer these emails.

Have a look at utilitEEs Entry Mailing Extension, it opens up a few options.
