I get a “autosaved data available” warning pretty often when returning to edit a post. It’s actually interfering with my workflow. Is there any way to disable this feature?

I could see that it might be useful but without any way of previewing the saved data before accepting it, selecting wether to keep it or not is kind of a roll of the dice. Thoughts?

    Goodcompany,

You can turn of the autosave feature in the Admin CP. There’s a hidden config value that enables and disables autosaving of your posts on the publish page. There are a couple of ways to set it, but you can do it straight from the control panel. First, login to your control panel. Head over to Admin -> System Administration -> Config Editor.

You should then see a list of lots of config values - do be careful here, because you could easily break EE. Scroll straight to the bottom row where you can enter a custom key. In the first textbox enter autosave_interval_seconds. In the second textbox enter ‘0’.

And there you have it! Autosave will be disabled for any posts you’re editing. I’m hoping that EllisLab allow you to do this from the CP directly in 2.1.

    Hope this helps,

    Jamie

Um…I’d say that pretty much helps! Nailed it in fact, many thanks!

Brings up however the broader question of how useful this feature actually is if we’re not allowed to see the auto-saved version before choosing to write it into the database…unless I am misunderstanding something.

    Hi goodcompany,

Glad that Jamie was able to help you with this. As for how auto-save works, please submit a Feature Request for additional or changed functionality.

    Cheers

I can imagine autosave is useful in case where your browser crashes after one hour of extensive work on a posting. But actually after 2 hours entries can removed.

    Jamie, should I enter
In the first textbox enter autosave_interval_seconds.
In the second textbox enter 7200 ?

    Hi guys

I can’t find autosave_interval_seconds in the config editor. Has it changed place ?

    Cheers,

You have to enter it in the first empty textbox. The 2nd empty textbox next to it should contain the value 0 if you want to disable it.
