If anyone could help me with this, I would be really gratefull.

My english is’t brilliant so excusse me from beeing clumpsy here and there…
I am trying to evaluate EE for news publishing site project, and really like philosphy of flexibility behind EE, and there are some requirements which EE kind of solution I need…

    So, my issues are:

    1. For project purposes (news portal), I need “most viewed” and “most commented” features. As far as I can see in EE docs, “Most popular” feature in EE is, in fact, “most commented”, ad for me it’s clear how to implement that. But, project requirement is also “most viewed” beside “most commented”. Is it possible with EE (i am using 1.6.8 for evaluation), and how?

    2. Article with “Related stories/articles” - same question about implementation!

Thanks for advance for your help,
and greetings from small boring town,

    Ren

    Hey Ren

IMHO, you can’t go wrong with EE. If it’s not built in then there’s an eecosystem of 3rd party after market add-ons and such. Don’t get me wrong, I like WP too but when it comes to being able to customize, “cross sell” content, etc. EE is right there every time.

I’m not sure about #1 but since it sounds so routine I have to assume EE can do it. As for #2, It would seem that you can use categories to pull randomly, Or there’s a addon called Playa that lets you do a one to many relate. For example article A has F, H and J related to it.

Finally, one of the thing you do not see listed in the EE feature set are these forums. It is a VERY robust and helpful community. Often when I stuck I’ll go fishin’ for an answer and someone will help. I can’t say I have found anything like it anywhere else. The EE support is great but the EE community is even better. IMHO of course 😉

    Does that help?

p.s. I’m not to 2.0 yet either but you might want to consider that. By the time you get it, digest it, code, test, etc still more bugs in the beta will be worked out. I don’t think Ellis would go Public Beta unless it was already pretty tight.

    Thank you Chief,
Im really apreciate your time and good will.
You are right, it is community which deserve respect. And, it is something in “EE logic” what really intrigues me. Thanks for Playa add-on tip, right now I’m spending days with Brendon’s FileField!
    Best regards,
    Ren
