Hi,
I am using HTTP Authentication for some of my templates… is there a way to change the alert message from the default “The server xxx at ExpressionEngine Template requires a username and password”?
Thanks in advance
Gary

Are you talking about:
enable_http_authentication_subtext in lang.templates.php?

I could be wrong on this but I don’t think there is a built-in option to change this text and I think that in this case it might be coming directly from the server itself maybe?
Best wishes,
Mark

Sue - I am talking about the pop message that you receive when enabling HTTP Authentication on a template. I want to change it from the default message. The variable you pointed me to is for the messaging in the control panel (i think).
Mark - I would normally do this using a .htaccess file and customise my message that way but I want to keep all security within EE.
I cant imagine that this is impossible, its relatively simple.

Hi benniog,
That message is being generated by the browser, and it will vary across browsers and platforms. Does that help?

Hi Brandon,
In my experience with using .htaccess files for this there are parts of the message that you can customise.. the part “The server xxx at ExpressionEngine Template requires a username and password?” is obviously being pulled from somewhere, I just want to know how to change that bit.
Thanks
Gary

The only place I could find ExpressionEngine Template anywhere in the whole of an ExpressionEngine install was in core.template.php. Not sure if that’s maybe where it’s getting it from perhaps?
Best wishes,
Mark

Hi Mark,
Thanks for your response, it look like it may be pulling of it from there but I dont fancy messing around in there… i havent got the skill 😊
I think I’ll just give up and create a login page.
Thanks anyway
Gary
