    Hi,

I am trying to import some content I have from MT already exported from blogger following the following link:

    http://expressionengine.com/knowledge_base/article/can_i_import_entries_from_blogger/

I can’t find the Admin > Movable Type Import Utility feature.

Could you please let me know how to achieve this import?

    Many thanks

Welcome to the forums, WFTSL. I am afraid MT Import is not currently available in EE 2.0.

Thank you for your reply Ingmar…

Is there any other format I could use to import blog posts from any other platform? Can you advice anything?

Not at this point, I am afraid. It we are talking about a large import, it might be your best option to setup 1.6.8, import the MT file, then upgrade to 2.0.

What are your plans on Channel-Entry-Import? Is it coming with 2.1?

I can’t understand why Ellislab is not providing this feature, since it is essential to switch from another CMS or another EE-Installation to a new EE2-Installation… :-/

any new details to this topic?

Unfortunately I have no comment at this time, other than that there will be some sort of import mechanism in a future version. No further details (or an ETA) are available yet.

Wow, to be blunt I have to say this really sucks. So I can no longer tell my clients that moving from their Wordpress blog to EE is a 15 minute exercise as it was with EE 1.x (albeit a roundabout route via an MT export)?

Now I have to downgrade, import and upgrade again? I’m assuming there is still no simple upgrade path from Wordpress to EE? I have about 100 Wordpress posts to import into a fresh EE2 install today, and in a few weeks there is another Wordpress blog with over a 1000 posts to port to EE2.

Frankly this situation is nuts. Both for me and for EllisLab - the market for users who have outgrown Wordpress and could benefit from moving to EE must be huge.

@Luke Hardiman: have a look at AJW DataGrap … it’s a really fine module for EE2 to import from various datatypes — contact Andrew, I’m sure he can add «Movable Type» to this great module … http://brandnewbox.co.uk/products/details/datagrab

… as long as Ellislab is not adding this feature back into EE, i think thats one of the only ways to go right now … 😕

Thanks Stefan, yes I have found that module - actually it quite elegantly solves my problem by the looks of things - unfortunately whilst it looks great, it’s not free.

With EE1 there was a fairly simple way to get from Wordpress to EE that was bundled with the cost of ExpressionEngine. With EE2 this feature has been removed. This makes no sense to me, particularly as it’s in Ellislab’s interest to make the migration path to their product as painless and cost effective as possible.

Hi, Luke. I don’t know when file conversions are scheduled to be available for converting to EE2.x. If you could add to an existing Feature Request that would help bring it to the attention of the dev team.

Thanks Sue, I couldn’t find the existing feature request you mention, so I’ve added my own.

I’m also not too sure what you’re referring to in terms of ‘file conversions’, although I know there are many and various data import requirements, hence the DataGrab addon from BrandNewBox.

    Hi Cyborg,

how are you set now?  Did either Ingmar’s suggestion or DataGrab get you what you need?

Just wanted to say I’m also very, very surprised at this.  I have a couple of EE1 sandboxes that I’m going to run the WP data through, but I’m amazed that this functionality is still not available as a first party addition, especially as it was in place in EE1.  Hopefully this will be sorted out soon - a blip on an otherwise excellent product.

Could anybody else who misses the MT Importer or requires an import utility please add their voice to my feature request here. Thanks
