So I’ve only used linux a few times ever. I don’t understand it very deeply. Is it too difficult to use amazon’s ec2? How much do I need to learn?

It’s not just a personal project, so I’d need to keep it secure.

    So a couple questions:

    1) Who here uses it to deploy codeigniter apps to?
    2) What linux distribution should I choose?
    3) What resources do I need to read?

    Any other tips?

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

I managed it one time to bring up an EC machine to live…
    following a sreencast from amazon…
anyway, without knowing how to drive a Linux server
you don’t really what you do…
the Tarzan toolkit is very useful to use the Amazon webservices…

    hi!

I’d be interested to read a guide on how to deploy a codeigniter app to EC2 as well!

I’d like to know how to do this too. I’m just a beginner. I’m not well acquainted with Linux or Unix. But I want to try it out on Amazon EC2. I’m also seeing database.com as a very good back end. I hope someone knows about this. BTW, the link given is dead now. :(

Alright, I’d love to help. I just managed to get a working EC2 with virtual host (meaning you can host multiple domain websites) with PHP and RDS. Right now uploading CodeIgniter to set it to run with RDS. I get my domains from Namecheap and use their built-in, free DNS system.

I can’t really write a long tutorial at this moment. But I am happy to help you with any question you might have in their thread.

By the way, I got started with a training about EC2 at tutsplus.com. It’s $5. Then I found out there’s also CloudFormation that helps put together your EC2 instance from some templates. I choose the one with PHP and RDS database.
