    Hi,

Some functions in our 1.6.3 installation (yes I know, we should update), stopped working yesterday when we had a lot of new posts by various members of our community (we are using weblogs to store student assignments). During the day almost 300 posts were submitted. After a while the backend started acting strange. No, for instance, it’s not possible anymore to change the sorting of tables (the CP Home is shown instead) and also the creation of new members is disabled (also CP Home upon request, no errors).

We thought it had something to do with a module we’ve installed (Blogger API, Core Module),  but we are also unable to delete an installed module (again CP home as a result).

Any ideas? Hosting said there are no strange MySQL errors in the logs or something like that!

    Thanks!

Yes, you should, it’s a recommended security update with a lot of bug fixes, too.

Is the site (frontend) working fine as such? If the MySQL db is not corrupted you might have to replace your files. In which case an update to the latest version at the same time would be a very good idea, of course.

The database seems to work fine. I’m able to perform custom query’s. It seems EE backend is struggling with something, beause certain requests/operations end up at the CP Home instead of the execution of the request/operation. (like submitting a weblog item).

Is there a possibility that the DB is (partially) corrupted? How can I check this?

Any other fixes of this problem? There has to be some reason for this to happen, the website has worked fine over the last two years (or so).

    Hmm,

Just checked my PHPMyAdmin, it seemed there were some problems in the following tables:

    - exp_entry_ping_status
    - exp_security_hashes
    - exp_weblog_titles

(it seemed there was a mismatch between the amount of rows, and the expected amount of rows)

Does this shed any light on a possible cause?

I’m gonna upgrade to 1.6.8. asap

Did you do any sort of import?

No not quite… only thing other than usual was a lot of members logging in CP to post weblog items. But EE shouldn’t have any problems with that right? Hopefully, the upgrade to 1.6.8 we just did, will prevent this to happen again in the future.

No, EE should have no problems with that, as such. That said, db corruption can have many causes. You successfully upgraded to 1.6.8? Are you up and running, as it were?

Well… it defintaly looks that way, but it’s still some days until the next ‘deadline’ at which a lot of students will again be submitting weblog items. We’ll wait and see!

    Thanks so far.
