I was considering using EE to build my site, but am looking for a way to incorporate a ratings-based system for both Forums and Articles.

1: I would like a Yahoo! Answers style forum where a question can be marked as “Resolved”, and also where the most popular answer (not necessarily as voted by the asker, instead that getting the highest rating from all users).

2: I would like a similar system for articles, where user-submitted and all other articles on the site can be viewed in such a way as that they can be organised by popularity e.g. on an X / 5 stars type way.

Can anyone tell me if these things are possible with a standard installation of E.E. and forum module?

There is not a ratings module that supports the forum; however, I don’t see a particular need for a forum here, instead you can use a channel/weblog with entries, where the comments are the answers.

And the same can be done for 2, while using Solspace.com’s Rating Module or silenz’ Entry Rating

Have you tried out EE yet?
