Having problems overwriting uploaded files

    Hi,

When I try to upload a newer version of a file, I get asked whether I’d prefer to rename the file. When I click submit without changing the name, I just get taken to a blank page and the newer file does not get uploaded.

The URL string, if it helps, is http://site.com/admin.php?C=publish&M=replace_file&Z=1 (I stripped the session ID).

    I’m running 1.6.8 build 20091201.

    Any suggestions? Thanks much.

Have you checked permissions on the file you want to upload? Are you using any extensions? You might also want to consider upgrading to the most recent build, helping us to rule out file corruption issues that way as well.

The file I’m trying to overwrite has 777 permissions. I upgraded to the most recent build just now, no change. Below are the extensions currently active for this installation:

jQuery for the Control Panel (v.1.1.1)
    Edit Tab AJAX (v.1.2.2)
    LG Add Sitename (v.1.2.0)
    Publish Tweeks (v.0.8)
    SL Developer Info (v.1.4.4)
    SL Field Formatting (v.1.0.2)
    Textile Editor Helper (TEH) (v.1.2.0)

Although I don’t think they’ve got anything to do with this, can you please try to disable extensions globally, just in case? Does it work with other files, or none? What owner does this file have, what are the permissions on the upload directory?

Hi. I tried with the extensions disabled - no change. The upload directory also has 777 permissions.

We’ve tried with a couple different files, both images and pdfs, and have the same result either way. We’ve tried it both from the superadmin account and other member groups with upload permissions - all got identical results.

Hi Marcus, can you try a few things:

    1. Can you verify that under Admin > System Preferences > Output and Debugging, you have Debug Preference set to ‘1: PHP/SQL messages shown only to Super Admins’?

    2. Under Admin > Utilities > PHP Info, let me know the value of display_errors?

Sounds like an error is occurring but it’s being suppressed.

    Hi,

As we are preparing for launch, I moved this installation to it’s new, permanent host today and the problem disappeared. Not sure what was causing it, but it appears to be ok on our new server so I’m happy to mark it resolved. Thanks.

Sounds good. Sound like your ownership was botched somehow. Thanks for the update, and please feel free to post again 😊
