Suddenly I cannot log into my control Panel. I know the password…. It just sits there and goes back to blank input boxes.???? Also… There is a saved user name in the drop down list… ‘red mama”.  Where it came from is mystery. No one else has access to or uses this computer. It is not an expression that would have ever occured to me to type in.. even in a drunken stuper.  Can this thing be hacked?  How do I get back in.. or do I have to uninstall it all and re instll it again? This is a mystery.

Did you try clearing your browsers cookies? Have you recently done anything to your site? Migrated it from another server?

Just cleaned them… Nope .. No Difference. Also that would be machine specific? Right? I cannot log on with another computer on the same network.. so I assume that eliminates individual machine problems.

What version and build of EE are you using?

Are you in an office type situation or is this your home computer?

Do you have access to phpMyAdmin where you can look in the exp_members table for your information?

Also have a look in exp_cp_log and it may shine some light on what may have happened

O.K.  I looked in the data base… my passowrd is not in English… I thought it was hex ..but it isn’t. What is it?

I finally managed to use the “forgot my password” thing to get a new one… That one does not work either.

The d base log says… “log in” about ten times in a row… but no log outs.  When I try to get the control panel it does not say incorrect password… or incorrect user… it just goes blank in the input fields and won;t actually take me to the control panel.

I have a forum where I could still log in and out.  The probelem is the thing won;pt change from the log in screen to the control panel screen.  Should I just dismantle all of it and start over?  I could never get the multiple site manager to work anyway.  There is intuitilvely something about that thing.. I have never managed to understand.

    Hi FTamalenus,

This does sound a little like a cookie domain problem. Are there multiple domains pointed at your site i.e. can you access your site at both domain.com and domain.co.uk for example?

    Cheers

Hmmmm… I am finally getting back to this problem. It seems that I cannot log into the control panel if there is a “Guest(s)” listed as viewing the forum. Once it goes back to zero…. I can log in.  I changed the security preference to ID only for admin…. and it does not make any difference. ???????

Also if I am logged into the control panel… I also shows as being logged into the forum.
.... but when there is a guest… if I log into the forum ( which I could)... I could not log into the control panel. I hope this problem description makes sense.

    Hi FTamalenus,

Firstly, I recommend that you upgrade your site and forum if at all possible. Your version is quite old and there have many updates. The current version is 1.6.9 Build 20100430.

You will always be shown as logged into your site on the front end if you are logged into the control panel.

Do you have any extensions enabled in your site?

    Cheers

    Greg
